SAIC, Shanghai Shendi to jointly forge eco-friendly Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone

SAIC and Shanghai Shendi (Group) Co will join hands in forging an eco-friendly Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, according to a cooperation agreement signed by the two companies on June 3.

Under the deal, SAIC will offer a full range of new energy vehicles together with a supporting service package. More than 100 of SAIC’s new energy vehicles – including Shanghai Sunwin pure electric buses, Maxus pure electric EV80s and EG10 MPVs, Roewe pure electric E50s and pure electric engineering vehicles – will provide regular green transport services for the zone. These “zero emissions” vehicles boast excellent power performance, long ranges per charge, high levels of battery and vehicle safety and leading technologies in China, thanks to SAIC’s strong overall capabilities in the new energy sector.

Shanghai SAIC Anyo Charging Technology Co, a subsidiary of SAIC, will build a building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) charging station and charging piles in the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone to provide green energy solutions to resorts and new energy vehicles. The company set a new Guinness World Record for the world’s largest BIPV project at the end of last year.

In addition, SAIC will launch new energy vehicle timeshare rentals in the zone, as part of an effort increase the usage of new energy vehicles and provide convenient green travel solutions for tourists.

The cooperation marks yet another move by SAIC in providing large scale new energy vehicle services, following its successful demonstration of new energy vehicles at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. Over the past few years of investment and technological accumulation, SAIC has become China’s first carmaker to own cutting-edge technologies and proprietary intellectual property rights in all three major fields of new energy vehicles, namely pure electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell.

SAIC will provide a greater variety of new energy vehicles equipped with more advanced technologies for the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, as part of the company’s efforts to push ahead with its innovation-driven transformation.

At this year’s Beijing Auto Show, SAIC displayed a series of advanced models, including: the Roewe e950 plug-in hybrid, “China’s first medium to high-end new energy sedan”; Roewe eRX5, the newest plug-in hybrid SUV; Roewe e550 plug-in hybrid, the “most efficient new energy car”,; Roewe e50, the pure electric sedan boasting up to 220 kilometers of range per charge; and Sunwin pure electric buses. These vehicles drew much attention and acclaim from Chinese and foreign visitors to the show.

According to SAIC’s plans for 2016-2020, the company will invest more than 20 billion yuan in new energy vehicles, release more than 30 new models equipped with world-leading technologies and work to meet a sales target of 600,000 units by 2020, in order to further consolidate its leading position in the new energy sector.

On the other hand, SAIC will make full use of resources in the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone to enhance brand building and marketing and increase its influence.

In the future, SAIC will continue to speed up innovation-driven transformation and build its image as a reliable, responsible, pioneering company in the auto industry.
